I’m writing you knee deep in boxes right now - not even FROM THE SOFA because it hasn’t arrived yet! We’ve successfully moved into our little cottage near the bay. It will be our “in between” spot while we build our house, and I think it’s going to be lovely!

The act of moving is always a big one — chaotic, exciting, intense, emotional as you start to judge and consider all of your things. I’ve been going through boxes from The Rapier House and trying to determine what we have room for in the cottage (not much!) and what needs to go back to storage. I am also ruthless when it comes to moving on from certain things when it’s time (message me if you ever need talking through what to keep/get rid of)! The strain of “getting rid of things that no longer serve you” still leaves me feeling exhausted but the true release is worth it! I am a minimalist at heart. If you haven’t read On Leaving Our Dream House — start there to bring you up to date!

Meanwhile, I’ve also been furiously working on our new house that we’re building downtown - dreaming up the interior architectural elements and “feel” of each room. I always find it easier to design on a specific feeling (this goes for clothes as well as rooms!) because it’s more personal. I find you can go deeper with it.

We don’t have the intention of building a big, big house — I feel like I’ve been there, done that with Rapier. I want a house that is more of a jewel box with beautiful detailing that sits downtown and uses our little village as another living room. When you live in a walkable town, I feel like you can get away with a smaller footprint because you’re more connected to the city. I want it to feel intimate but juxtaposed with grand, classical proportions.
